Little Lucy Library Project: From Read-a-thon to Building a Little Library
Some of our 4th grade students posing with the completed library.
In October of 2024, our elementary students from 1st through 4th grade enthusiastically participated in a read-a-thon challenge. Their goal was to raise funds to add a Little Free Library to our campus, enhancing access to books for everyone. After a dedicated week of reading and reaching out to donors, they successfully raised enough money to make this wonderful addition possible!
Ms. Elizabeth is providing feedback and direction to 3rd grade students.
In the third trimester, the elementary school students started their journey on designing and painting the library with the guidance of Ms. Elizabeth! Each class was tasked with creating a side of the library with a design that they collaborated on together. They spent time brainstorming, drafting, and finally painting! Each artist added something to the final design. The results are thoughtful, sweet, and a beautiful representation of our LS community.
The 1st grade class created individual roof “shingles”, the 2nd grade class designed a side with a llama and the red barn, the 3rd grade class’s side features a llama lounging in the pond with a smoothie, and the 4th grade included rainbows, bugs, cats, and more on the back panel of the library. This project was one of the longest of the year, taking up almost an entire trimester.
The library was officially shared with our school community during the end-of-year barn dance and is now open for use! The commitment, thoughtfulness, and creativity shown by the elementary artists was inspiring to see and be a part of. What a beautiful way to end the 2024-2025 school year!
