Arts in Education Week: From the Ground Up – Threads of Creativity

This coming week is Arts in Education Week, and we are excited to celebrate with a weeklong exploration.

Inspired by the mycelium networks that connect life beneath the soil, our theme honors the hidden ways creativity grows—in each of us and in our community. Just as a garden thrives when the earth is tended, children’s ideas and imaginations flourish when we nurture them through the arts. At Lucy School, the arts are the fertile soil for creativity—woven into daily learning through drama, music, movement, and visual expression.

Throughout the week, students will reflect on how the arts help us connect, express, experiment, and grow. Our approach is rooted in inquiry—encouraging children to ask questions, take risks, and discover meaning through artistic exploration. This philosophy guides our initiatives all year long:

  • Inquiry-driven, process-focused learning that values imagination, exploration, and collaboration.

  • Integrated arts projects that connect directly to core studies in science, social studies, and language arts.

  • Community celebrations that honor both the creative journey and the finished work.

  • Guest artist residencies that bring working artists into our classrooms to share their craft, spark inspiration, and deepen learning.
