Meet Dan

At Lucy School, we provide a student-centered, arts-enriched program (including drama, creative movement, dance, music, and visual arts) that will stimulate, nurture, and enhance children's intellectual, emotional, physical, social, aesthetic, and creative development, ages three through eighth grade.

Academic Rigor

We offer high quality academics that challenge students to think in new and interesting ways. Arts integrated projects give students opportunities to develop and expand their learning beyond the classroom and increases student engagement. Our students are challenged and successful daily, yielding high achievement and academic excellence.

Arts Integration

All students take classes in the Arts and classroom academics are enhanced through artistic expression. Teaching artists work with classroom teachers to integrate drama, creative movement, dance, music and visual arts, providing enrichment and cross-curricular learning opportunities. The Arts build critical thinking, collaboration and communication, reasoning, creative problem solving, and divergent thinking.

Environmental Stewardship

We promote, teach and nurture a connection to nature and the environment on our 17-acre campus through our ponds, wetlands, meadows, fields, gardens, and woods. Our campus provides opportunites for scientific observation, experimentation, and projects. We boast a LEED Platinum certified Green Building, restored barns, and an 18th century farmhouse as our learning spaces. We have been recognized as a National Green Ribbon School for our level of commitment to the environment. A respect and love for the environment infuses our daily life at Lucy School.

Creativity & Play

We honor childhood and respect the research on the value of play as a contributor to healthy brain development and creativity. Our students investigate and explore ideas and are happy, curious, creative, and capable learners. We provide developmentally appropriate curriculum and we recognize that children's health, attention, academic achievement, social-emotional development and overall mood is enhanced through frequent movement breaks, fresh air, and opportunity to learn through play.

Community

We are a connected community, and we cultivate caring relationships with each student and family. Our community values diversity of background, culture, and experience. We recognize the importance of collaboration between families, educators, community members, and artists. Small class sizes promote social and emotional development and ensure that all students are valued for their unique contributions. Cross-grade buddy classes shared play and learning times, school-wide Singing Meetings, and special learning days are examples of ways we learn in community. Parents contribute through active parent committees, social events, volunteer opportunities, an active PTO, and family nights.
