Ancient Architecture Project
Our 6th grade students participated in two-part research and design projects involving classical civilizations and architectural accomplishments. Through their research, students were tasked with finding out as much information as possible about their selected architectural structure. Next, students created a PowerPoint slideshow that included multiple historically relevant citations and information about their structure. This encouraged students to imagine the technological accomplishments and social organization that ancient societies were able to achieve.
Students were tasked with the impressive feat of creating a scale model of their given architectural monument. Students utilized recycled materials, paint, cardboard, and various items to create historically accurate 3D models that represent their selected structure. Lastly, students presented their research alongside their scale model and explained the significance of the structure as well as the complexities that ancient people faced in creating it, as well as the challenges they faced in replicating it as a scale model.
